Art Protis
The 60-year history of the unique Art Protis textile technique begins in Brno in 1964: the revolutionary technology of Art Protis put Czechoslovakia on the map of textile innovation and created new possibilities for the production of tapestries and non-woven textiles used for art, as well as sparking developments in interior design and fashion. Ladislav Dydek was undoubtedly one of the first Czechoslovak artists to adopt and artistically develop this textile art technique. In the early years, the technique known as “Arachne” was used; it later evolved into what came to be definitively called Art Protis (wool and other textile materials not only pressed, as in the first version, but also sewn onto an underlying layer). The artistic product thus enjoyed great success due to its decorative function in interior spaces and was considered innovative even on an international level (the international exhibition in Osaka and other shows, notably the 1969 exhibition in Chicago).
